Her Interests (at least in the past):

• Disney Movies/Stuff
• Music -- "The Wiz" soundtrack, some Barbra Streisand songs like "How Lucky Can You Get?", "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" -- but so far she's not a third generation fan. 
• Legos, Painting, Bubbles
• The Beach (Italy, Coney Island, Provincetown)
• Playing Keyboard -- Alexandra is clever at making up songs as she goes along.  She took to the keyboard like I did when I was a kid.  I play by ear.
• Center Kids at the Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center -- Alexandra has gone to lots of Center Kids events, including picnics, Halloween Parties, etc.
• Traveling (to California, Italy, Paris, etc.) -- Alex has been to California many times, Oregon a few times, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, three times to Italy and one time to France.  She's even ventured as far as Jersey before!

My amazing daughter has persevered through so much already in her life (such as my divorce).  Despite my prior troubles, she has remained happy and extremely good-natured.  She is my best friend.  I always knew I wanted to be a father and prayed that I would have a daughter first.  I wanted to name her after Barbra Joan but her mother wouldn't let me, so now she's Alexandra Monique, something that took a long time for us to reach a compromise about.   Needless to say, her mother scoffed at my rhetorical request to wait to have the C-section four days so they would share the same birthday!  Every week Alexandra amazes me with the things she says.  I will endeavor to document her insights into life here.  For now, here are some of her interests, together with pictures and sounds.

Alexandra's First Email (June 1998)

Alexandra used to like the Spice Girls.  In fact, on one visit to their official web page, she started to write them an email before I realized what was happening (she has a breathtaking level of reading).   She wrote something to the effect of:  "Hi Spice Girls.  I like your songs.  I'm sorry Gerri Spice left.  I have a friend in school who has hair just like Sporty Spice, but hers is not FAKE!" (emphasis added).

The most popular video in our house is now Annie (the 1999 version).  We also watch Disney's Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston's Cinderella.  Alexandra loves Brandy and her song "The Boy Is Mine".  I must confess, I enjoy all of the above too (even some of the Spice Girls stuff the first few hundred times).

Alexandra often goes Barbie crazy:

No matter how hard I tried to raise Alexandra with non-sexist toys, she just gravitated toward Barbie ad everything pink!  Maybe it was the power of the "media".
